Red Flag Horseless Carriage Tour

Friday, September 27, 2024 (11:00 AM - 3:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

The Red Flag Horseless Carriage Tour commemorates England's "Emancipation Run," a vehicle caravan between London and Brighton celebrating the 1896 Locomotives on Highways Act - a British law that allowed for motor vehicles to travel at up to a dizzying 16 mph, and eliminated the need for a man on foot waving a red flag in front of motorized vehicles.

Today, the London-to-Brighton Veteran Car Run is the world's longest running motoring event, and is open only to vehicles built before 1905.

The Red Flag Horseless Carriage Tour carries this tradition across the Atlantic by recreating the Emancipation Run between New London and Brighton, Iowa.

Now in it's 17th year, the Red Flag tour features one- and two-cylinder, gas, steam or electric antique vehicles (including motorcycles) built before 1916 and vehicles with more than two cylinders built before 1928.

These amazing historic vehicles will cruise through Geode State Park at approximately 10:30 AM; arrive at Crapo Park at 11:30 AM and visit the Burlington riverfront and Memorial Auditorium between noon and 3 PM.

Antique auto fans and anyone who loves to catch a glimpse of Greater Burlington's celebrated past won't want to miss this unique sight!
