Vacation Through Time: Ancient China

11/14/2025 - 11/17/2025

Description

In 1974, a group of farmers digging a well in the Lintong District of Shaanxi, China stumbled upon something incredible: a pit containing row after row of beautifully crafted, meticulously detailed terra cotta Chinese soldiers.

Eventually, the three pits uncovered by archeologists would prove to hold more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses, and 150 cavalry horses. Other pits nearby held figures depicting officials, acrobats, strongmen, and musicians.

Why were these beautiful sculptures buried in the earth? What was their purpose?

Find the answers - along with other fascinating facts - as you travel through time to visit the places, people and monuments of ancient China.

Vacation Through Time is free and open to the public. Visit the exhibit Friday (Nov 14) from 1 to 5 PM; Saturday (Nov 15) from 9 AM to 5 PM and Monday (Nov 17) from noon to 6 PM.

No registration necessary - just drop in and begin your journey through history!
