Downtown Partners, Inc. has partnered with the Iowa State University Extension office and Burlington Community School District's PiECES afterschool program to help get families outside to stretch their legs, read a book, and have some fun with the StoryWalk® program in downtown Burlington.
This event is most enjoyed by kids 10 years of age and under and will lead the child throughout the downtown, into local merchants' store fronts, while reading a story about Valentine's Day.
The StoryWalk program is designed for families to engage in STEM and Healthy Living literacy activities while learning, moving and enjoying the outdoors.
It all starts with a Valentine's Day craft at the Art Center of Burlington and ends with a Valentine's themed movie at the Capitol Theater.
This event is to encourage youth to read and to make reading fun.
What you can expect:
*Check into the Art Center of Burlington anytime between 10 AM - 1:30 PM. There you will create a fun craft and get a map of the story book locations.
*You and your kiddos will travel throughout the downtown reading pages at each of the stops until you finish the story.
*Your last stop is the Capitol theater, where the child will receive a goodie bag and families will enjoy a free movie.
This is a FREE event, craft and goodie bags are available while supplies last. Registration is not required - just show up and enjoy the afternoon!
