Before Voices of Light

Thursday, January 29, 2026 (6:30 PM - 8:00 PM) (CST)

Description

Burlington Civic Music, the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra and the Capitol Theater team up to bring one incredible evening of film and music to downtown Burlington - Voices of Light on February 7.

But before you see that extraordinary performance, you can join this open conversation about silent film, discovery and storytelling.

Film historian Mike Zahs will share insights into silent cinema, including The Passion of Joan of Arc, Iowa’s motion picture history, and how these films continue to connect with audiences today.

The conversation will also offer context for Voices of Light, but no prior knowledge is needed. Bring your questions—or simply come to listen and enjoy the discussion.

This event is free and open to the public.
